Your safety is extremely important to us. We have put together a few tips on how to keep yourself and your personal data safe whilst online:
Passwords: Never share your passwords and if you do write them down, keep them secure. Don’t use anything obvious and try to use a mixture of upper and lower case letters as well as numbers and symbols to provide complexity.
If you wish to change your password for any reason, you can use our password reset function or change your password within your account settings
Personal information: Once your profile has been approved by our team it will appear on our site. Any information you’ve included will be available for public view and so we recommend that you are cautious about how much personal and family information you share in your profile.
We advise that you do not to include detailed information within your profile that could help identify your precise location, such as your surname, street name, or full postcode.
Be mindful about how much information you share on your social media accounts, such as Facebook and Twitter, and check your privacy settings so that if someone searches for you online it won’t reveal any personal or sensitive information.
Secure messaging: our secure messaging service has been designed to keep our members safe. You can chat to other members about job opportunities but you need only reveal your contact email or telephone number when you are ready to do so. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t continue. State you are no longer interested and politely end the online conversation.
Report: Report any concerning behaviour to the Close to Hand team via firstname.lastname@example.org. We retain a detailed log of all member to member messaging conversations which can be referred to in the event of any dispute or complaint. Any abusive language or bullying will not be tolerated on our site and will result in the immediate deletion of a member’s account.
